a pal asked why always go BKK, what's the attraction? common reasons for travel include Work, Relax, Shopping, Food etc. some go for Theme Parks, Religious Visits, Historical Buildings etc. Of course some head to Exotic Food & Activities.  some visit Friends & Relatives.

an uncle joined the China Eating Tour by Restaurant Assn. he complained the leisure visit to view mountain & river was wasting time! another relative only likes Shopping in Modern Cities. someone returned from Halong Bay & remarked so slow moving, & she witnessed robbery! 

my HK relatives know SG very well. they call & pop over the next min! a friend who settled down in USA comes SG every alternate year to visit her relatives & friends. they also witness the rapid change of the Lion City. someone wishes to watch F1 & Concert here.

2 years ago brought a good friend to BKK. that's his virgin flight! although he's relatives in Sydney, never been there before for he didn't want to trouble them though was invited. picked BKK coz i'm quite familiar. his only request was don't catch flight before 9am for he afraid can't get up that early. also maybe no cab at 6 am! he lived in Sengkang. had few meetings with him before booking. explained to him Pratunam was like Bugis, Siam Sq meant Orchard Rd etc. told him what to expect.

in these 2 years other than church activities to Malaysia by coach/car, he didn't fly to anywhere. base on this request, i'm looking at HK. he's much magnetized by HK dramas/movies that he must visit Yau Ma Teh Police Stn, Ladies/Temple St, Ocean Pk & Macau. he feels early planning is risky as no one knows the nearer happening. that's quite tough. we're still planning.

well before you travel oversea, make sure you know what kind of activity you want. do expect the unexpected & enjoy the Cultural Shock. 

An Unexpected Date in Bangkok

the original plan by Thai friend Tech was to visit Phya Thai Palace Museum of the well respected King Rama 6th & had coffee at its stylish cafeteria followed by dinner at Siam Paragon or Central World but more affairs happened!

after the Palace Tour, casually mentioned to Tech i yet to visit Temple of Dawn & The Marble Temple although already visited many other major Temples. immediately the lovely lady said let's go to The Marble Temple! Wow she fulfilled my wish! we grabbed a cab again.

 White Marble were used extensively

sudden downpour. all roads jammed. no sign of cab. Tech advised to catch a Bus & BTS! virgin time for me to board a Bus & BTS! we're lucky the Air-Con bus came. very packed. reminded me of old days S'pore, paid cash to the Conductor & Ticket was given. still have old SG bus tickets.

alighted near BTS Siam. Q to get change to get ticket. without Tech i were be lost. 1st time experience. arrived at Central World. headed to the no Q Japanese Restaurant.

we love coffee but starbucks was full so headed to coffee beans. for this outing on 9/8 SG National Day, i thank Tech wholeheartedly. she's a Great Host. Good Karma for Her.

 Although missed SG National Day, I'm still a loyal Singaporean

Lucky Me: after i boarded the cab at the BKK airport, heavy downpour. about reaching the hotel, the rain stopped. after visiting the 4-Face Buddha, had dinner at a street hawker. rained half way eating. there's canvas shelter. rain stopped so was my dinner. returned to hotel not at all wet. 1st day was Aug 7. Thai voted. Also 1st Anniversary of Erawan Shine bombing. All went well & Peaceful. Buddha Blessed Me.  

7th Month 2024

this year 7th Month or more commonly known as Ghost Month in Taoism is from Aug 4 to Sep 2. If you're not a Taoist or Chinese Free Thinker, you need not offer Things to the Ghosts. usually Buddhists offer prayers.

in this unexpected situation, your mood & income might be affected. still you've do respect the festival & offer things to them. maybe lesser. they understand. well, if you're worried that the unreasonable ones might be angry & disturb you then wear an Amulet to protect oneself. will not go through the whole list of Dos & Donts that many are already aware of. show some interesting, lesser known but VIP ones.

1. Don't let your new property vacant during the 7th Month! Get renovation started before or during the period. Some Naughty Ghosts will try not to return to Hell after the holidays. Your empty property is the best place to hide. Once They succeed, They become PR, & you tenant! They'll haunt you daily, & will chase you out!

2. Although one doesn't get married in 7th Month, it's perfectly all right to pick Auspicious Wedding Date.

3. Some "Good Ones" will be granted Early Release to enjoy the Month Long Holiday. They'll be here a few days before Aug 8. By Sep 6 midnight, They're expected to return to where They belong but some "Bad Ones" will go AWOL. Then the Hell Guards, Ox Head & Horse Face, will come to look for the "Lost Ones". If your luck is very low, Don't Go Out especially in the Night that often for the Guards might mistaken your identity!

4. Now Getai is trendy. The 1st row of seats is meant for Them. Don't be too happy to see empty seat!

5. You can book your Dream Car but Never Collect it in the 7th Month. Funny Accidents happen!

6. Can Travel Oversea? Not for Leisure. Best postpone it even for Business. For many Ghosts are looking for Replacement. 

7. In Buddhism, it's the Buddha Happy Month. In some countries, one will invite Reverend to stay in his home for the festival. Lunar 7th Month 30th Day is Lord Ksitigarbha's Birthday,

Share some Unbelievable Happenings during the 7th Month:

a. accidentally a little girl stepped on some offerings. from then on her growth was limited, & she often cried & screamed. medical & religious help failed. when she passed off at 20+, her look was only a teen!

b. every year, his boss grants him 1 month leave to stay at home. for once he steps on the street, he could see "Things"! And he'll scold & fight them! he's sent for mental checkup but it proved negative. 

c. a young chinese couple married, after their banquet checked into their bridal suite. about midnight, group of footsteps noise was heard at the corridor. the noise marched into the couple's room! the bride can't move at all, can't talk, only her eyes could roll! the groom didn't know what to do. the noise went round the room including the ceiling. such sound effect lasted for about 4 hrs! no shape or white smoke was seen. the couple checked out straight without enjoying their hotel breakfast.

d. late night, one drunkard not only urinated near a coffee shop's 7th mth altar, he stole offerings too! shortly he became dumb! after many days of apologized praying & bringing new fruits to the altar, he managed to recover. 

e. a family shared that their dog whined & growled in some nights now. dog is sensitive in seeing " thing ". moreover good " ones " can be released early. no harm for " them " to drop by as long as human isn't disturbed.

Respect God & Ancestor

Tong found it troublesome to offer joss to his ancestor tablet & goddess of mercy at his home altar after his mom passed off some years earlier. He felt all religious & chinese festivals a burden!

When his new HDB 3-room flat arrived, using the excuse of a small unit, he convinced his wife to transfer the ancestor tablet & goddess to a temple. They didn't pick the right date!

Without picking auspicious date & geomancy, they moved into the new flat. A few months later, Tong who never smoke or drink collapsed one day! He's rushed to hospital & put in ICU. The doctors could not identify his illness.

At such desperate moment, a relative suggested to his wife to seek Divination Lot at a famous Goddess of Mercy temple. The caretaker at the temple after studying the Divination explained that " The Ancestors were unsettled & unhappy. Seek Religious Blessing......"

Without delay, Mrs Tong went to 2 temples to seek Forgiveness from 2 ancestors tablets. The one at their home was to honour Tong's parents. It's transferred to temple A. The one in temple B belonged to Tong's grandparents & great grandparents. It's was there since Tong's parents was alive.

Tong should have place all ancestors in the same place. His manner & communication skill were very poor with all. Certainly he didn't explain properly to the ancestors about his shifting & arrangement.

Mrs Tong also went to another temple to pray to the Kuan Yin who's sheltered there after the Tongs felt troublesome & need no God.

After all that were done, unbelievably, Tong was out of ICU & eventually discharged. He now rests at home. Too weak to work. Hope he'll think better during this long rest period. Also hope he'll change his hot temper & weird character.

PaPa Dearest

You're a strict father. Walloped me for red marks, & naughtiness. Honesty equals Poverty, you mentioned often but you still believed in Honesty. To improve my academic results, you engaged many tutors for me. Most interesting was that former school Principal who conducted many tuition classes in his home. Important was the famous Art Tutor & Artist Mr Seow Cheong Choon. After a few sessions, the school art teacher saw my instant improvement. Initially he thought i got someone to do my homework. For some years, I taught Art in some private schools for the 0 & A level students. You shaped My Life & made me a Good Man. Thank You, PaPa.

Many things you taught me were Golden. How to Cha Cha, Drink, Pen, wear Necktie, etc. I was unsure to accept Lions Club's invitation to be member in the 80s. You coaxed me to accept & explained that to be invited is an honour. The membership fee was sponsored by you.

In your younger days, in addition as a Foundry & Engineering Works man, you learned Book Keeping, Electrical Works, Social Dancing & Photography, etc. Your will to quit smoking in dinosaur time was an Honour.

Papa, i'm sure you're very happy in the Western Paradise. You told me you're there in a dream some years ago. Also grand aunt Yoke Sim joined you. Received the news through a one sentence email by  Christina that HK grand uncle Shu Hong had passed away.

As the eldest child, you took care not only your folks, but 3 sisters & 1 brother too. You also helped all relatives especially granny's side, all the way to HK. Remember once or twice in a month you'd bring me to a professional letter-writing man in Jalan Besar or Chinatown area to pen letters to your mum's family in HK.

In the 60s, you arranged a big ship to sail your mum to HK to meet her relatives. Her probably first visit after her marriage to grand father in S'pore. All of us sent her off at the harbour. In the early70s, you  & your mother flew to HK. Your first time meeting all the relatives after years of correspondence.

In HK, they brought you to visit your granny's grave. You were shocked to pick up some Paper Money instead of the camera you left on the ground! They said it's Red Packet that your granny gave you.

In the mid 70s you brought your wife & son to HK after the Taiwan trip. Since it's the first time, mother met with the HK relatives, she offered Tea to all elderly. A form of Chinese respect. We're given Red Packets. For both the trips with your mum & us, you're a little surprise that the HK relatives followed us everywhere, & we paid for all their expenses.

After your departure, the HK relatives come here quite often. Interestingly, they picked up most of the bills. They also did that when we visited HK the last few times. It must be the good karma planted by you.

About your departure 33 years ago, it's kind of sad. You won over the decade old diabetes but lost to the sudden few months old liver cancer! You felt it's due to the last few years of excessive hard liquor of business entertaining.

Your teaching & the love for the family are always in my mind. As you know, Mama is reaching 90. Due to old age, few years ago, she fell & broke her hip. Few months ago she'd a mild stroke. All under control now. As your only child, I'll manage her well.

You're a no nonsense man. Many were surprised that you disowned your 3 younger sisters & their families. For they're unfaithful & caused lots of problems between your mother, her sons & their wives.

You're fight whoever bullied your parents. You got your dad to quit as he's often bullied by the boss. Then you & him started the Foundry business. Although you don't like me to carry on the foundry business for it depended heavily on manpower & a sunset trade, I managed to keep the Company Name & Shop till the landlord based on conservation property ruling took the shop back. It's a big relief to mummy. Not cos of the little compensation but the burden, I think.

Mama loves you always. Often she told us you're the Best Husband. Brought us to many countries for holidays. Also whenever there's new restaurant, we're usually the early patrons. She, a happy housewife.  

Shortly after your departure, Your only brother helped quite a lot, eg getting buyers for the scrap metal. Recall you're the one who persuaded him to study English, & your mum made you pay for his English fee. Without English, he would not be such a successful businessman till now. Once I asked you why don't we go into Engineering Works too. You replied that your uncle were have no business. Once again, it showed how much you loved the family.

My family including mama are doing all right & will be fine.

This Sunday, 19/6, is Father's Day. You're always in my mind not only for the occasion. Now social media is interesting. I still keep many of your things, eg 60s XO Hennessy, model SLR camera, photos, etc. Last Nov, managed to visit Dongguan, the birthplace of our Ancestor.

Keep the Dreams coming. I Love You, Papa.

well if you're already in business, & is doing well. still feng shui for this environmental science will move you to the next level. Sumitomo did it.
