cny & yusheng is the hot topic. decided to try this Raw Fish Salad at Dragon & Phoenix Restaurant, co-creator of The Original S'pore Yusheng, by owner Master Chef Hooi Kok Wai in the 60s. now his son Chris call the shot. recall as a kid, my parents quite often brought me to this restaurant in outram hdb area.
that day chap goh mei, feb 6, 2012, together with 2 buddies, stanley & lee, went to its 3rd location at Hotel Novotel Clarke Quay. after outram it's at valley point according to lee. arrangement was made much earlier with chris abt free parking, brandy & wine glasses & ice-bucket.
the place was on lvl 6. quite small. many staff were elderly pple. it took them quite awhile to understand & brought us brandy glasses. tv stn had shooting there. a sr male staff assisted well in opening the vintage remy martin xo. i ordered 3 signature dishes ie Yusheng with Ikan Parang (wolf herring) instead of salmon, Spring Chicken & Crispy Chicken Yam Ring, & cny Oyster Fa Choy (not in pic). tea was Pu Er.
mood improves when a smiling pretty young aunty tossed this dish with all the auspicious saying. as a custom she's rewarded with an angpow by the host. stanley a very old fashion eater felt that the steps were wronged & too sour! but we felt ok.
a must try dish, Yam Ring, guys prefer chicken than prawn. lol. strong taste of yam & well crispy.
another must try dish, the signature Spring Chicken. it goes well with any liquor. thumbs up!
the pu er tea was quite good. the final bill was $121 only. very reasonable. will surely return for more. yet to try their dim sum.
