FISHING

'Angling for a catch' tis article in sun times 5/7/09 lured me 2 disclose my d other identity! Barracuda & Garoupa found in sungei tampines!!! they'r sea fish, & barracuda has season.

i was d Founder President of spore's 1st reg angling club, Pioneer Angling Club. i was spore's 1st fishing author, The Right Way to Pond Fishing. published by eastern univ den sold to times. still found in various libraries including spore sports council. i oso conducted fishing courses n talks at ymca, libraries n ccs.

fm d 80s to early 90s, fishing brought me 2 radio, tv, n press. sentosa found a fish will call me, changi beach had fish bone oso called me..... angling fair '82......(expo at ch chamber of commerce, documentary films on fishing by various embassies), brought pple 2 fish all over spore including under benjamin sheares bridge.... all these brought worries 2 d only 2 fishing tackle giants!!! if i were monopolised by 1, d other felt he'll suffer!!!
politics were created in d club!! some trusted fellas went 2 start another club w support by 1 tackle shop. they failed eventually. God knows! i must tks a pool of honest n loyal followers esp lee fong soon. now 1 of their key chaps is a conservationist!!!

it all started coz in those days, spore lacked proper fishing organisations n knowhow were ltd. PAC was eventually voluntarily dissolved coz all felt objectives achieved. Fishing is now a recognised event. there's a govt backed assn. many fishing clubs, mag, shops etc. some yrs ago my cousin felix told me tat in some internet fishing forums still mentioned PAC & Danny Cheong. a legend! haha. felix as his name hinted tat he really a die-hard angler. today. he's still fishing, whereas i full time retired. although still hv dreams related 2 fishing!!!

Fishing had brought me fame n glory including almost took pt in d world cup marlin! took pt in sea games.... reservoir fishing.... spore water sports assn.... learnt alot too, politics and friendships. some good pple always in my mind are lee fong soon, tan pin ho, ronald bush, weng yan, maurice pasqual, patricia tan, poh leong, loo, teo wai kai, tc lim, johnson, desmond. etc. some bad names will b remembered but forgiven GC, GP, WR, RT. take tis chance 2 thank hock heng pple, helen, david, ricky, raymond; & d 2 old uncles of siow chiang arab st. not 4getting d little old shop at beach rd (long gone). oso tampines & spore fishing ponds. boatman chai teck & family. some press stars were margaret chan, gloria chandy, magd lum, siew hua, & kf seetoh (makan sutra. he's a photographer, in an outing, he snapped a shot of siew hua's pretty legs won an award). PPD's freshwater fish expert & Sentosa x curator who specialised in sea fish (4got their names) in helping 2 indentify various types of fish). uncle loke keng wan intro fishing 2 me. harry teo n jacques C my mentor.

tis para dedicate 2 mr teh, x credit mgr of harpers trading. in d 80s, he's a new but over zealous angler. although i advised him n declined fishing w him at d famous spooky n v rough sea horsborugh lighthse, he went ahead w his buddies. read fm d papers tat his boat hit undersea giant rocks, although he's a good swimmer, he died. other mates non swimmer survived!

my extreme attempt in local water was raffles lighthse. at there we used sinkers as big as pears! lines u can call rope! in malaysian water, i went pulau aur, sharks island. furtherest east island. 6 hrs boat ride fm mersing. tioman only 4 hrs. even at coast, d water was dark blue. saw villagers hung skark fin, abt 30 cm long! we didnt get any shark anyway. saw dolphins along d way. now they said marlin n swordfish oso hv!

copied some other clubs, my members were addressed as Fisher. it's always my dream to perform Backward Cast. it's possible folks. did it b4. i still hv some classic fishing tackle, eg Abu 282, garcia fishing rod, mitchell 410, n d rare fishing bag tat they tot golf bag! if d price is rt, go take them, auction oso can, autograph oso can. haha.

Happy Fishing! but beware of hooks, esp rusty ones. wen u cast, watch safety. make sure no fishing line lay loosely on d ground. dun lose ur temper wen no bite. teach junior how 2 fish. be humble, dun haolian abt your uglystick or abu diplomat. as 4 me still trying 2 understand tis phrase: Fishing is a bait at 1 end, a fool at d other!!!

a time to remember our ancestors. in eng, 'all souls day'. it mayb lunar 2nd or 3rd mth, spring. this yr, lunar 3rd mth, 31/3 -28/4. actual day 5/4, lunar 6th day.




in old china day, there's spring-autumn visit. 2 times to visit ur ancestors. autumn would b lunar 9th mth 9th day. well, now in new world even china doesnt quite care abt 99! sporean lagi tidak apa!

u saw sophia loren at d recent oscars. so gt a french lady tat i named my 2nd girl after her. my 1st girl was named anita, & son winston. guess after who? clue: not sarawak, not choo.
my sophia jus got her 'A' level result: A for maths, physics, chem, econ & chinese, & B for gp! temasek jc.
'O' level: A1 for comb humanities, geog, maths, add maths, physics, chem, chinese, & A2 for eng!
tanjong katong sec sch.
some top brain buddies told me tat w such results she can do anything!
sophia was a EM1 student. in pri 5, the nearby sch was 2b shifted. to us to a faraway pl. since faraway might as well put her 2 a better sch. i was prepared to shift near to tat better sch. contacted chij, ai tong, maha bodhi, & kong hwa. no vacancy. eventually she joined canossa cvt as a student migrated. wat a blank to fill. although we r buddhist, no mind a catholic env. her eng n reading habit became stronger.
she's d last batch of psle student 2 use d 'tinkam' method. apply sch 1st, result later. her avg marks was 240+. d previous yr most schs including d top ones revised marks dn. wen she got 245 we tot she got into cedar, cut off mark 242. many were disappointed! tat yr most schs revised up. sophia ended up in tanjong katong sec sch. next dr was tkgs. she qualified 2 appeal but she n friends liked the given choice.
fm pri to sec 2 her position was between 10-15. sec 3 she opted for sci but double n not treble. less stress they said. oso she gave up higher ch in sec. less stress again! after mid-yr exam in sec 3, sophia told us tat she tot she came in 1st. good news but abit shock to us. she really came in 1st. mayb sitting position good feng shui. (i cant control tat in sch). i gave her a bigger gift n challenge tat if she maintain 1st in d final, i'll double the reward, eg $50, $100 etc. she won! rt till 'O' lvl, she 4x the prize $!!! 1st in class, 3rd in std!!!
with avg pts of 5 she qualified for NJC or can even try Hwa Chong or RJC. parents r all like tat. n kids reply would b 'u like, u go study there lor'. she chose to remain in TJC. didnt even consider VJC. although we live near both.
with d new system of H1, H2, H3, i oso blur. my time was principal/subsidary subjects. intro her to Econ. told her tis new subject is v interesting. she dropped geog although was her fav. no regret.
recall she luv reading n read big books. she read dan brown, long b4 da vinci code was made into movie. near 2 her 1st mth of birth, we brought her to our fav temple. d asst chief nun liked sophia so much tat later on became her 1st god-child. in pri sch, sophia was a librarian. in sec sch, girl guide. in jc, chinese orchestra n leo club. sophia did v well in cca.
i'm so pleased n proud tat she got no tuition. not tat we wanna save $. she felt she didnt need it. her cousin, 1 yr younger, received specialised tuition fm pri 1 till now jc 1!!!
if u were me, am sure tat u'll write a pg or 2 abt ur child 2. best rgds.

wow struck by lightning!!! really suay! really something! only bad chap will kenna strike! old tales said so! tot Merlion is a good guy tat work so hard for Spore, 24/7 somemore.
'the biggest feng shui office guy' selected the auspicious date/time for mr merlion to shift to the current postition some yrs ago. probably he selected the spot 2. even made sure tat our darling went over d bridge n not below it while crossing 4 luck reason.
it reminded long long ago, some1, believed 2b rev hong chuan, more famous as a feng shui master, advised the govt to place something at d old spot 2 channel in wealth. to please all races/religions, Merlion, was created. it worked wonder. good 2 move 4 d old spot sucked in sands instead of water, ie Wealth. take care Merlion, we Luv U.

well, 2 yrs ago, janny n partners rented a 1000 sq ft plant n feng shui. now expansion, needed 1 more plant, 2000 sq ft. good news rt? but they r bargaining n bargaining for 'better price'!!! results had shown them. moreover they can afford it. moreover my fee is fine. moreover already 21% discount. moreover LV & Rolls Royce oso fixed price. haha eventually i got the job still! they checked w others but still felt most comfort w me.

LIFE CHANGED
